Book Group

'Ladies' of Ashendon (and adjoining villages) meet once every two months to discuss a book they have all read during the previous months. It is a lovely excuse just to get together and has certainly helped many members to rediscover the fine art of reading – i.e. it makes us pick up a book and read it.

Dominoes team

The team play the popular pub game of Fives and Threes.  They play on Thursday evenings in the Aylesbury League from September to April and, during the summer months, play friendly matches at the George and Dragon at Quainton.  All games start at 8.30pm. Competition mat5ches start at 8.00pm.

Gatehangers' Association

Towards the end of the 1950s, a new gate was purchased for the village allotments (now the Playing Field).  It lay against the hedge for several years until a couple of villagers decided that it was about time that it was hung.  So, one Saturday morning in May 1962, Stan Ewers and Cyril Beattie completed the task.  John Boughton suggested that they should mark the occasion and, to celebrate, they went for dinner in the pub.  One dinner wasn’t enough; they decided to form the Gatehangers’...

Oil buying group


The aim of the Oil Group is for us all to get our oil as cheaply as possible.             

When any member is running short of oil they email Roger.  He then emails everybody in the group to see if any others require oil. Once he has received their replies he contacts a number of oil companies and negotiates the best price.  It takes about two weeks from his original email for members to receive a delivery.

Red Lion Social Club

Riding for the Disabled Association

Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) provides opportunities for disabled children and adults throughout Buckinghamshire.  There are ten RDA groups in the county catering for a range of clients.  Some groups take only riders from specific schools/units/day centres.  Every group is independent and facilities vary depending on location.

The Bernwode News is published on the Friday before the first Sunday of each month and is delivered to your door.  As well as providing news of Ashendon and other parishes within the Bernwode Benifice it is one of the best places to find details of reliable local businesses.

Bus route 112 is operated by Z & S International

Buses leave Ashendon on Wednesdays and Fridays at 9.14 a.m. and go to Thame (arrive 9.56) and Aylesbury (arrive 10.48)

The return service leaves Aylesbury Bus Station  at 1.00 p.m. and Thame Town Hall at 1.53 arriving back in Ashendon at 2.34 p.m.  

The bus stop is at The Old Forge NOT at the bus shelter which serves the school buses.

Aylesbury Vale Dial-A-Ride is a charity providing a door-to-door minibus service for those who finds it difficult to use ordinary public transport.

Waste, recycling and garden waste collections

Collection day is Friday.  Waste bins are collected one week and recycling bins the next.  Food waste bins are collected every week.  To see which bins are collected on which week log onto the website, input your postcode and then click on the number or name of your house.

Householders can pay for a garden waste bin which is collected fortnightly on Mondays.  There are no garden waste collections in December or January.
